Yesterday’s celebration of Jamaica’s 51st year of Independence in the National Stadium was more about the people than the performances for me. Of course the likes of Damian Junior Gong Marley and Junior Reid and the other local entertainers gave great performances.
However, the stars of the show for me were the thirty thousand Jamaicans that poured into the stadium for the celebrations. The energy, the excitement, and the oneness was overwhelming. I was reminded that we are more than Sun, Sand, and Sea. It is the spirit of the Jamaican people that has sustained us for fifty one years and will see us through generations to come.
